    I just found your video and this was exactly what I was imagining! I really want to replace all our bifold doors on our new home, and the previous owner has installed vertical cellular shades on the patio door and I thought it would be perfect for the closets... and there you are giving me exact instructions! Yours look quite opaque, and I want to make sure we don't see the contents of the closets through the shade.

    Great video! My question is how far away from the base unit can the cameras be is it just as long as they reach Wi-Fi or is there a certain distance?

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY 27 дней назад

      I have not actually looked into what Aosu has to say about the distance but they will probably provide a best guess based on normal wi-fi connection data. There is more to consider, you may be close to the base but mount it in a location with thick walls, or other items that disrupt the wifi connection. I would use the distance indicated on the Aosu website as a starting point. You can use your app to see the connectivity and if it is poor, move it and or the base to see where you can get the best connectivity. I realize this isnt the perfect answer but even in my experience, I have a mesh set up with good coverage all over the house but I found that placing the security camera on the corner of the house, did not get as clean of a connection as I did when mounting the camera in the center of the wall just above the garage door. Probably because it has a clearer line to the the base. I hope this helps but if you have any further questions, I will do my best to provide a proper response.

    What were the settings you had for the bottle opener. I’m trying too engrave those and metal dog tags but can’t get my image brighter. They keep coming out dark

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY 27 дней назад

      I do not recommend using the same settings that I have. You might not obtain the exact same product as I did and the coating on the products may be different and require more power, slower, speed etc. The best thing to do is to use one bottle opener and dog tag to perform a test on. Use lightburn tool to test your power and speed to see which settings gives you the best results. It is possible the products you purchase might not be ideal for the type of laser you are using. I purchased name plates and it worked perfectly. The next batch of name plates I ordered turned out to be different, and I have not been able to get a bright image. Turns out, it is a different type of metal. So, I too experience problems all the time. Its all about testing first and learning. I hope this helps some. I would love to hear if you manage to make things work and if so, how you did it.

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY 27 дней назад

      Overall, the flag was 36"W by just shy of 18" tall. US flags do not use a 2:1 ratio. I cut 1/4" grooves to allow slightly larger coins to fit between the shelves. It looks really, really great! I want something this simple, but the majority of the reviews on that particular brand haven't been good at all 😢 How has it been holding up?

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY 27 дней назад

      The reviews are probably correct but there may be more to it. Within a short period the paint started chipping on our floor. BUT!!!! it was only chipping below where the tires rest when parking the car. After research, I learned it is because the tires get warm from friction when driving and the heat from the tires make it chip. One solution would be to place mats where the tires rest and it may help. Of course, when the car is parked, you dont see the chips much because the tires cover it. :-). As for the rest of the floor, mine is destroyed, but I abuse my floor differently from most others. I use my garage as a woodworking shop every day. I roll out workbenches and heavy woodworking equipment, as well as lumber, etc. I spill paint, wood stain and epoxy and it damages the floor even more. However... around the edges of the floor where there is little traffic from car tires and woodworking, the floor looks great. Based on cost comparison to the much more expensive epoxies. I stand by my decision to paint the garage floor as I did. I can redo the garage every few years and the cost will still be less than the expensive epoxy that is supposed to last 10 years. If money is a concern, I stand by this but if you can afford to spend more, you may want to consider the epoxy method. I hope this helps.

    • @NYCAppl3
      @NYCAppl3 27 дней назад

      @@Poor_Mans_DIY I understand completely! I'd probably do the same if I used my space in the same way. Most complaints were about the hot tire pickup. I considered getting thick floor mats to prevent that. Thank you so much for your feedback 😊

    Not sure what settings I have wrong... but no matter the wood thickness it only engraves, doesn't cut.

    • @brentmarvich9859
      @brentmarvich9859 Месяц назад

      Depending on what you are trying to cut, you will likely need to make multiple passes. I am able to cut 13mm poplar boards with my 20w ray5 using 100mm/s at 100%

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY 27 дней назад

      Several things to consider. First, if you have not done so, be sure to use Lightburn tool to perform a tests on the wood. you can test power levels, speed as well as the number of passes. the results will help determine which settings are best to cut through. Second, be sure you adjust the height properly, each time you use different piece of wood. the same sheet of wood may be thicker of thinner in places. Lighter spots on the wood may cut easier than darker shades. Third, if you performed lots of tests, or if you used any type of plywood to cut, there is glue inbetween the layers in the plywood. I find it produces more gunk that piles on the lens and the hole where the laser comes out. All of these need to be cleaned. Lastly, if you do not have or use an air assist, it will make a huge difference. Air assist blows particles out of the way, helping to make a cleaner cut. At times, I forget to turn on my air assist and it does not cut through wood that normally does. I hope this helps but if you have further questions, feel free to ask and we will do our best to provide a response.

    If you use isopropyl alcahol in a spray bottle and mist it over the epoxy, it pops the bubbles. I use it when i make dominoes.

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY Месяц назад

      Great tip. I also use about 5-10% denatured alcohol stirred in the epoxy to thin it out. The bubbles on my projects are from the air pockets between the sheets of wood I glue together. Bubbles often times come out of the seams and stick there without making it to the top. Popping them with toothpicks is my only option. LOL. We thank you for sharing the wonderful tip.

      It actually started chipping within a few months, but only in a few specific locations. Doing some research, I realized it was chipping where car tires sit when parked. Turns out, tires get hot from friction when driving and caused the chipping, but the rest of the floor was great. My garage floor is torn up all over because I use it as a woodworking shop. It was worth the extra effort to add the epoxy. Turned out quite nice, if I do say so myself. 🙂

    Thanks so much for this video. It’s a great idea. I would like to do it for my bedroom closet, which is 48 inches wide and 96 inches tall. How did you order it? Did you list the width as the height and the height as the width? I’m trying to understand how you Ended up getting the bracket at the top of the closet for what would’ve been the side of the shades

      We purchased these as custom blinds. There were a few companies that custom make these to order. When placing the order, you provide measurements and if the shade will be inside the window sill or outside. Although we used it for a closet, we simply indicated it was for an inside curtain and they provided the proper hardware/brackets, to mount it in the closet. Thank you for the wonderful question

    I just purchased a AOSU. DOORBELL, I was wondering after you wired your doorbell does it also continue to charge up your battery too?

      Outstanding question. It never crossed my mind. That being said, I have to admit... I do not have a proper answer for you. It will have to be addressed directly to Aosu's customer support. I am so sorry I am unable to help.

      That is kind of a harsh thing to say to a Japanese blooded old man. That's close to a "slant eye" comment. Can't help how my eyes are but it is all good. The benefits of having eyes like this is that I can see through closed horizontal blinds. LOL.

    These turned out very nice. It was a lot of work, obviously, but the end result was well worth it. My best to your better half and hope she is back in the shop with you soon. Have a wonderful and peaceful Independence Day !!
